About Blogging a Dead Horse

For the record, this is not a web site devoted to bikes.  So you may ask why are bikes the only thing that I have on the site?  The simple truth is that I have no other content to put on the site..  I registered the domain to give me personal email, an FTP facility and off-site backups. The bikes are simply something to have on an otherwise blank website.

So why the dead horse? And why the long face? Blogging a Dead Horse sort of implies that this site might contain a blog where I can rant and rave about anything that takes my fancy. Wrong. That would involve actual work so it is unlikely to happen.

So, to fill in space I have created the following pages:

  • BMX Bikes - Some photos of my BMX bikes and links to other sites of interest
  • Road Bikes - Photos of my road bikes and the parts I'm collecting for a future build
  • Parts - Proving that you can buy anything on eBay, this section showcases NOS and mint condition, second-hand parts

Hotfoot Information

While researching information for my '85 Team Hotfoot and up-coming '82 Team Hotfoot build, I got so sick of finding information then losing it again that I started copying images of bikes, parts and advertising material into a single place. Please browse through all of the material I have collected:

Just like when researching and building my Hotfeet, I have collected a lot of information on the Malvern Star Supermax, Maxi and Speedwell Sting bicycles. Again, a lot of this information was culled from OzBMX, BMXMuseum and the web ..   Please browse through all of the material I have collected:

My interest in the Giant made Hotfoot and variants available in other countries eventually lead me to the Predator range of bicycles made for Schwinn in the early to mid 80s. These bikes are classic Giant and some models are almost identical to the Hotfoots sold here in Australia. Most disappointing though for me is that these bikes seem to be higher spec than ours - look at the 24" full CrMo cruiser the US got compared to our HiTen version..  Please browse through all of the material I have collected:

So once Giant was a fledgling little bicycle company until they made a deal with Schwinn to build some of their bicycles in Taiwan die to the rising costs of American labour. Now, they are well giant in every respect being the largest bicycle manufacturer in the world. This website is particularly interested in Giants from the late 70 and 80s but I am happy to display any cool BMX bikes, including later model MOSH ones.  Please browse through all of the material I have collected:

  • Web Development

I am using this site to develop some skills in CSS, PHP, jQuery and other scripting and presentation technologies.   As a result, some of the pages feature annoying image transitions and shadow box techniques that are really overkill for an amateur site like this.  If you don't like it then all I can say is (quoting the famous words of bio-terrorist Ma Sheela) 'tough titties'.
