Repco Hotfoot

While researching information for my '85 Team Hotfoot and up-coming '82 Team Hotfoot build, I got so sick of finding information then losing it again that I started copying images of bikes, parts and advertising material into a single place. To assist others, I have reproduced this information over the following pages .. most of the information can be found on OzBMX and BMXMuseum and I am not pretending that this informtion will replace either of these valuable resources.

Please browse through all of the material I have collected:

If you have any Hotfoot information or photos, please forward them to me and I will add them to the site. I am especially interested in brochures and advertisements as these are most valuable when restoring bikes back to their original glory.

Stubby Holders

On the eve of placing a second order for stubby holders, I thought I might put a couple of pictures I have collected together showing how the stubby holders are being used and the exciting places they have been by those lucky enough to have one.

Series One

Series One of the stubby holders was commissioned in March 2017 and consisted of two designs. Production was limited to 30 of each design as I tested the water (or beer?) on how many I could sell. My wife thought I was crazy and she feared we would be caught with most of them .. well to her surprise these quickly sold out and I wished I had ordered more.

The designs below feature an X-Gusset and an '85 Team:

This design was lifted off the advertisement placed in Pancake magazine that promoted the Hotfoot Classis Series (in Victoria) and the Riders to America Series (in New South Wales) competition.

This design is a stylised rendition of the image featured in the '84 / '85 catalogue. In retrospect, it didn't print as well as hoped on the stubby holder - the background came out a shade of purple rather than black / grey.

Series One: Out and About

The Hotfoot Stubby holder is not some show pony and is designed to be ridden. The following pics show them in action before, during and after the event.

Troy and his misses took their Hotfoot stubby holders camping at the Great Australian Bight. Troy's drink of choice - Coke Zero apparently - allows him to keep watch while his partner slams down the heavy stuff!

While Adrian has some decisions to make about which stubby holder to use, his decision on the contents looks to be solidly made. Having two stubby holders allows Adrian to hold one in each hand.

Luke's stubby holder is the first to travel OS (that's overseas not old school) to New Caledonia. I reckon I could have guessed the location of this pic purely by the number of Norfolk Island pines in the background.

Mick Smith: On the Road to Nowhere
I am not sure where Mick was heading in that caravan but I like the idea that he just pulled up on the side of the road, cracked open a Henninger and waited for the traffic to die down.

Pete Healy: Twisting by the pool
Only Pete Healy can make a photo of a can of soft drink looks so desirable. Pete didn't even leave his backyard to take this photo but with a little imagination you could believe he is in the tropics somewhere.

Shannon Rob: In the kitchen
Shannon totally misread the graphics on his stubby holder - mistaking 'Hotfoot' with 'Hotfood' - and thought he had bought a cooking mitten. Luckily I have a sense of humour otherwise I would be demanding its return.

OK, so the maiden voyage was just across the road to a neighbours house but the stubby holder performed admirably shielding my hand from the icy cold glass. That is an ultra-low carb 'Pure Blonde' which is code for 'no flavour'.

Travis Little Spence: Where's the fridge?
Travis is missing a vital ingredient - beer. It looks like a nice sunny day, he has found a shady spot under the back verandah but alas .. no beer. Where is that fridge again?

Series Two

Series Two of the stubby holders is a work in progress but it is likely that I will reprint some of the images from Series One to cover the shortfall from this batch.

The designs below feature an X-Gusset and an '85 Team:

This design was culled from the '84 / '85 catalogue and shows a classic Team with the commonly available pad set that was used from '85 through to '88.

Like the Team design, this design was culled from the '84 / '85 catalogue. The background has some colour variations and glitches from scanning but these will not be visible once printed.

This iconic Repco emblem was featured on the cover of the '84 / '85 Catalogue. I decided to go with this design as come of the Repco road bike boys might also like to buy them.

Series Two: Out and About

Again, the Hotfoot Stubby holder is not some show pony and is designed to be ridden. The following pics show them in action before, during and after the event.

Series Two included a Repco emblem taken from the cover of the '84 / '85 catalogue. I intentionally did this knowing that some of the boys from the Repco Appreciation Society might be interested. Greg is showing his in front of his '87 Repco Vortex.

Mick was an early adopter and bought a couple of Series One stubby holders but had to have a Freestyle stubby holder to complement his current '85 Freestyle build. This pic shows the stubby holder in action in front of his NOS black Redstone mags - destined for his custom '85 build.

What better way to get motivated when building your next Hotfoot but to crack open a drink and start assembling the parts? Ashley contemplates both packages that arrived in the mail today - new stubby holders and an SR stem.

Just being on the road doesn't mean you cannot be a little artistic in your pictures as Mick proves in this interesting picture of two stubby holders in the countryside.

Galaga and beer .. is there a better old-school combination? This picture was taken just as the Boss Galaga has started its tractor beam which any player would know allows you to get potentially double up your firepower!

Another nice picture from Mick .. the crate in the background looks like it say 'Nightingale' and 'Wollongong'. Is it a winery?

Anything '80s goes with old school BMX .. what can be more '80s than an old tape deck and some classic tapes. Check out the Rodney Rude tape front and centre!

Like Greg above, Jason loves Repco road bikes from the late '80s and early '90s. The bulk of the stubby holders with the Repco logo went to members of the Repco Appreciation Society including Greg, Jason and Shannon.

Mick's stubby holders are enjoying their trip across .. mmm .. where actually are they? It doesn't matter, its sunny and there is beer.

Chad's cool Fiat 126 looks tough with its front and rear bumpers made from pipe and Arbath inspired stripes. My biggest concenr about these cars are simply where can you put a slab of beer or - for that matter a Hotfoot - in them?

Shannon's stubby holders took a trip via his neighbour's house due to some shoddy labelling by your's truly. After describing them as 'shady fkrs' Shannon had to eat his words when they returned the stubby holders to him.

Mmmm .. lamb. Reminds me of a line from the Big Fat Greek Wedding when the bride's mother proclaims after hearing of the groom's vegetarianism, "He don't eat no meat? Okay, I make Lamb."

Anthony's pictures show a Repco emblem stubby holder at what looks like a farm in the dry Victorian country-side. This picture shows a spotless stubby holder on the top of a Honda trail bike ..

.. whereas this second picture shows the same stubby holder, now in 'rider condition' with a few marks and stain on it beside a camp fire.

Anthony's pictures extend beyond the old campfire pics as this image of He-Man shows.

After me mistakenly thinking than Shan was calling me a rock spider, I understood that he was refereing to this '85 Team Spider. The conversation was best ended there ..

Famous People

A few famous people have bought these stubby holders and they are not too proud to be seen in public with them.

Haven't got around to getting a stubby holder or two yet? Liz got her's too but it appears Jacob is too dignified to bring one to a function. Queen of England or President of a backwards African country? Your choice.

Haven't got around to getting a stubby holder or two yet? Vlad eyes off Cristina (and her stubby holder) wishing he had got around to it.

Haven't got around to getting a stubby holder or two yet? Bill probably wished he could buy one but how would that look if he bought one for himself and not the poor and downtrodden? Maybe the Bill and Melinda trust can buy one for each person in the world .. mmm .. 6 Billion x $6 each plus postage?

Haven't got around to getting a stubby holder or two yet? Mark received his in the mail the other day and he hasn't put it down since.

Haven't got around to getting a stubby holder or two yet? Obama ordered a couple and has been out enjoying them now that he has a bit of spare time on his hands .. Oh yes, its true that Trump is a non-drinker but I wouldn't sell him a set anyhow.

Haven't got around to getting a stubby holder or two yet? From beyond the grave, Jobs cannot believe the similarities in its shape and the iPhone he was holding seconds ago. What's more aluring? An iPhone or a beer .. mmmm beer.

Haven't got around to getting a stubby holder or two yet? Miranda and Orlanda got theirs and they haven't been seen in public without them.

Haven't got around to getting a stubby holder or two yet? Cameron has received hers and she can't keep her eyes of me, the creator. Neither can that creepy guy sitting behind her.

Haven't got around to getting a stubby holder or two yet? Alice and the Colonel talk turkey (chicken actually) over a few beers.

Haven't got around to getting a stubby holder or two yet? Brad wishes he was man enough to use his Hotfoot stubby .. unfortunately, it will remain a prop for his 'bad boy' photo shoots.

Haven't got around to getting a stubby holder or two yet? In retrospect, George looks like a good guy compared to this new schmuck who is in office. George, the recovering alcoholic, loves his new holder.

Haven't got around to getting a stubby holder or two yet? Walt Kowalski bought a couple and found a bit of dutch courage prior to cleaning up his neighbourhood. OK, not my best one but its a great subject.

Haven't got around to getting a stubby holder or two yet? All I ask is three beers a piece for each of my co-workers...I think a man workin' outdoors feels more like a man if he can have a bottle of suds. That's only my opinion.

Haven't got around to getting a stubby holder or two yet? ... you know the drill. This picture is (obviously) old but someone had already been at it before me. The picture below shows two spots where someone else had cut the beer can into Jimi's hand.

Haven't got around to getting a stubby holder or two yet? Gemma's got a pair .. why haven't you?

Haven't got around to getting a stubby holder or two yet? Pete got his in the mail and its made him look like a young man.

Haven't got around to getting a stubby holder or two yet? Charlize got hers and she's a long-neck sort of girl - read into that what you will.

Haven't got around to getting a stubby holder or two yet? This nobody managed to get a holder from me not sure how but I am glad she did!
