The most important measurements to take are the measurement A (also known as PZ) and the length of the backplate. Make sure to check these measurements to ensure your new uPVC handle will fit.

Lever/Lever

A lever is a rod that pivots around a point. When you apply a force to the end of the lever, it will tend to rotate the fulcrum in the direction of the applied force. This rotation multiplies the applied force which allows you to lift or move something that would require more force if you were to apply directly to the load.

The distance between the fulcrum to the point where you apply the force determines how far the lever can move. This is known as the mechanical advantage. The more the lever is extended, the larger the mechanical benefit. You can determine the mechanical advantage by dividing the distance from the fulcrum to the point at which you are applying the force by the distance between the fulcrum and where you will end the lever.

Levers can produce different effects based on the method by which forces are applied. For example a lever of class 2 is inclined to turn in the opposite direction when the force applied to it (like a teeter-totter). If you push the handle of a door the force will create the same rotational effects as this.

However, levers don't create energy. Levers multiply the force by making small amounts of effort applied over a long distance into larger amounts of force applied over smaller distances. This is what allows you to accomplish more in a shorter period of time, and that is why levers are often used to lift heavy objects or moving large amounts of cargo. The lever principle is used in everyday tools like crowbars. Hammer claws fishing rods, hammer claws and even your own legs when you stand on the hand brake of your vehicle.
